A Sail To Prevail sailing instructor and Harvard Varsity Sailing Team members team up to provide instructional sailing for children with disabilities. Specifically, we’re looking to serve Cambridge, Allston and Brighton – children ages 7-17, with physical or intellectual challenges.

We will schedule 8 sails in total in SEPTEMBER 2019, for Tuesdays and Thursdays, 3:30-5:30 pm.
(You should be at the dock 30-45 minutes prior to sailing – please take this into consideration with school schedules!)

Our programs encourage individuals with disabilities to be active participants in the sailing experience. They steer the boat, grind the winches, and trim the sails. The measurable outcomes demonstrate increased self-confidence and leadership skills.

Our boat:
Foremost in the custom-design of our Independence fleet is the safety and accessibility for sailors with disabilities. The hull has 52 cubic feet of foam floatation, making it unsinkable. The helmsman and crew are all within easy reach of the controls. The person seated forward handles the main and jib halyards, reefing lines, and jib sheet through controls mounted on the deck. The helmsman controls the mainsheet and the tiller. The boom is rigged to allow headroom while tacking. This design allows for different arrangements of individuals to sail, including the ability for two individuals sitting in the swivel seats to have independent control of the boat.

FREE Instructional Sailing
Please download a registration form from the Sail To Prevail web site: http://sailtoprevail.org/registration/
Click the “Registration” tab, and look for the red heading “Nantucket and Cambrdige Registration” on the page.
You will need 2 forms: Participation Waiver and the Cambridge Sailing-Participant.
Everyone who boards a boat needs to have forms completed.
Fill in the forms, but do NOT choose the exact day(s) to sail – our Program Director will be in touch with you to work out the best date(s) so that as many children as possible will have an opportunity to participate. We will schedule 8 sails in total in SEPTEMBER 2019, for Tuesdays and Thursdays, 3:30-5:30 pm.
(You should be at the dock 30-45 minutes prior to sailing – please take this into consideration with school schedules!)
Depending on how many children are registered, you may get to sail just once, or perhaps several times.

Once you are booked by talking with our Program Director, if you need to cancel for some reason, please call as soon as you know, so that we can give another child an opportunity to sail. Thank you.
